Libra - Latin for "the Balance" or "the Scales", from the equivalent Greek word Zygos. This sign was originally called, "the Claws", which were supposed to be attached to Scorpio; the later idea of a balance may derive from the relative equality of day and night at the autumnal equinox. At first Scorpio held the scales in his claw, but then they were transferred to Virgo, who used them to weigh competing claims and thus to dispense her justice. uivalent Greek word Zygos. In that I was born a Libra on the cusp of Scorpio, I suppose it was appropriate to have a career which included 'stinging' and capturing arsonists and presenting them to the courts of justice.

In the process of exploring the complexities of human behavior, one cannot avoid the ancient approach to human categorization known as astrology. I, for one, tend to discount most things not based in scientific fact. Over the years, however, I have observed that some strange underlying truths seem to peek out from this 'philosophy'. There have been times, during the process of investigating fire episodes, where I have utilized the general astrological information compiled for the various 'Sun Signs' to assist in ascertaining motive and method of suspects. In that more often than not, this procedure has proven reliable, I am forced to conclude that there may be "something in it"

Therefore, I present the astrological explanation for Libran behavior in the hope that you may discern some of my basic and general attributes

The symbol of the SCALES expresses the character of those born between the dates of September 20 and October19. (I was born on October 21) Libras seek balance in everything they do. Having good manners, they are able to get along with most people. They tend to follow social norms as not to rock the boat and put their position in danger. Libras try to be all things to all people. Too often they say yes and wish they hadn't. Some Libras create the impression that they are impartial, but actually they are always aware of the power imbalances around them and not beyond using this information for their own purposes when the occasion arises. They consider political intrigues fun, when it doesn't involve them, and pass gossip along when appropriate. Not only do Libras have a certain recognizable grace in deportment, they are very attractive to the opposite sex. Libras like to make a good appearance and they give their wardrobes a lot of attention. Likewise their physical surroundings are expected to reflect their graciousness. Libran want their homes to be lovely and inviting, if not lavishly appointed. When Libras travel they like to do so comfortably and with friends.

Libras have a strong sense of justice and many are to be found in the legal field. (I sure followed that path) They especially enjoy the role as attorneys, often in partnerships. Libra are wonderful judges of human nature and do well as psychologists. They also handle disputes as mediators, arbitrators and negotiators. They could easily act as diplomats and intermediaries between warring parties, even referees. Their love of beauty draws them into the fields of cosmetology and fashion design. Many of the most striking socialites and models featured in magazines are Libras. From their appreciation for proportion and harmony, some are drawn to artistic endeavor as painters and sculptors, while others choose the performing arts as dancers and musicians. Libras also succeed as architects, landscape artists and interior designers. Interestingly some great military commanders have been Libras, being able to weigh the powers of both sides and making strategic moves. They make great matchmakers in dating services and tour directors on cruises. Libras can be party people.

Libras are often found playing the role of peacemaker. They are fence sitters until the situation gets out of hand. Then they side with the underdog to provide balance. In a way they see life as a battlefield. So when they insist on fair-play they are looking to see that they are treated right, as well as others. One rarely sees a male or female Libra angry, but if so, stay out of the way. Pressure may have been building up for a long time. Libras desire approval more than they realize. Wanting companionship Libras may form relationships too quickly and then become disillusioned. Consequently they may marry more than once. But Libras always sincerely believe in love.

Additionally, I was born in 1944, the year of The Monkey, according to Chinese Astrology.
