Among the eight or nine ball courts of Chichen Itza, the
largest is located to the North, in the NorthWest corner. It
measures 168 meters long and 70 meters wide; the largest in
Mesoamerica.
A rich ornamentation of polychromatic relief and painted murals
decorates the lateral walls and the four adjoining temples or
chambers. On the walls of the ball court is depicted a file of
players with costumes and protective equipment at the moment of
and after a decapitation. It is unlikely that was the final
result of each game. It may have referred to certain historical
or mythological events.
Scenes of many battles and people can be seen in the Temple of
the Shields and Jaguars, which crowns the southeast section, and
against the wall of the inferior temple, as well as the North
Temple which is at this time roofless.
